Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) Movie Review

Spider-Man: Far From Home was directed by Jon Watts and released in the U.S. on July 2, 2019. It is a film that does have some script issues, however triumphant fight scenes and an awesome twist propel it to amazing heights.

The cast was probably my favorite thing about this film. Tom Holland is the perfect choice for the teenage Spider-Man and I think that he did a great job in this film. He played his character well, while also adding a lot of emotion to his performance. I also thought that Jake Gyllenhaal was a great addition as Mysterio. I am a huge fan of Jake Gyllenhaal (and I mean huge). I have loved all of the work that he has done prior to this and I think he also gave a stellar performance in this film. Zendaya was also the perfect choice as the love interest of Peter. I liked her performance in this film a lot more than in the previous film and she added a lot to the story. Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders weren’t in the story for very long, however they also gave great performances as usual. In the end, I really appreciated the casting of this film, meaning they definitely did an amazing job in that department.

The first thing that I enjoyed about this film is somewhat of a spoiler, however not really. I thought that the twist in this movie was just amazing. I had heard before going in that there was a twist, however I did not suspect what it was at all. It completely surprised me and I thought that it was done very effectively. The next positive to this film is that there are just some seriously awesome shots. There are some awesome fight scenes that you get to see with Spider-Man and Mysterio together and they are just amazing. The CGI on “the elements” was also stunning. I very much appreciated all of the work that they put into making these scenes look amazing.

The first thing that I was mixed about was how Mysterio was portrayed at times. While I thought that Jake Gyllenhaal did amazing, I was slightly disappointed in how the character was written. At times his character was very effective in the story, however other times it just seemed like lazy writing. I wish that they would have found a better way to balance his character out more.

Really the only thing that I disliked about this film was that there were things that just seemed like they were done half heartedly. I didn’t feel like the story really needed to take place in Europe at all. I think a different title could have been more appropriate as the location didn’t seem to really matter at all. The same situation could have happened anywhere else in the world and it would’ve been just as cool. It seemed as if they only picked these locations for all of the money and incentives that they were given. Some of the scenes and decisions by characters were also cheesy at best at times.

In the end, this is a very entertaining movie that I think any superhero lover will thoroughly enjoy. The acting, cinematography, and CGI were all done phenomenally and made a great film.

Rating- 8 out of 10 on the scale of awesomeness.
