Baby Driver (2017) Movie Review

Baby Driver was released in the U.S. on June 28, 2017 and directed by Edgar Wright. This is a very unique film as it utilizes it’s music more than usual. It also offers a very exciting and fun story in the process.

The story features Baby, who is a getaway driver for robberies and other crimes. He works for Doc as he once stole from him and now is paying him back through the driving. The film goes through the several robberies and crimes as Baby is their driver. It also shows Baby meeting his love interest Deborah who plays a key role in the story. Baby ends up paying back Doc, however he is still forced to drive again. The rest of the movie is him trying to escape Doc as he doesn’t want to drive anymore.

I really appreciated the cast in this movie as they all played their roles very well. Ansel Elgort played Baby and he did a perfect job. His character didn’t talk a lot, however he still had to show a lot of emotion in the movie. He did an amazing job of being the lead in the film and he definitely carried the whole movie. Lily James played Deborah who was Baby’s love interest. I also thought that her performance was very good as she added a nice touch to the film. The rest of the cast featured Jon Hamm as Buddy, Eiza González as Darling, Jamie Foxx as Bats, and Kevin Spacey as Doc. Each of these characters had some significance in the story and enjoyed each of their performances. In the end, the cast was a huge positive in this movie as they each did an amazing job with their roles.

The main thing that I really enjoyed about this film was it’s score. All of the music was placed very precisely and each song had a meaning in the story. This is the movie’s most unique element as it uses it’s music very effectively. The whole film is basically a music video as there are songs constantly playing. In other cases this would make me upset, however they did a good job of making sure that each song fit into the story and had meaning. The next thing that I enjoyed was the story. All of the action sequences and car chases in this movie were executed perfectly. The whole story kept me intrigued and entertained throughout it’s entirety. Finally, the cast was also really good. They brought in a lot of bigger name actors and actresses and each of them delivered great performances. This made the movie very realistic and I really appreciated all of the work put into this. Overall, there were just so many things that I really enjoyed about this film.

The only thing that somewhat bothered me was that the film did become a little boring during the middle portion. The story kind of slowed down and that really wasn’t consistent with the rest of the movie as it was all fast paced. That was really the only thing that I disliked about Baby Driver.

Baby Driver is mostly a fast-paced film that is very entertaining and exciting throughout. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes action and crime movies. It is very unique and does a good job of using it’s music and making you care about the characters.

Rating- 8 out of 10 on the scale of awesomeness.
